By offering family members and children the opportunity for regular check-ups
and screenings at GPWC, sometimes major health issues such as diabetes,
kidney disease, heart disease and stroke can be checked or the negative
consequences of those illnesses delayed with preventative medicine and pro-
active steps.
Here’s what experts are saying nationwide:
The American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society and
American Heart Association have joined together in a historic collaboration
to encourage the prevention and early detection of cancer, diabetes, heart
disease and stroke. One website (www.diabetes.org) notes that “2 out of 3
persons with diabetes will die from heart attack or stroke and that early
detection is the key to saving lives.”
Mark Hyman, M.D. of UltraWellness in Massachusetts says, “One in three
children born today will have diabetes in their lifetime. Yet, this diabetes
epidemic is entirely preventable with early detection of pre-diabetes and
insulin resistance.”
The National Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org) claims that 26 million
Americans have Chronic Kidney Disease and another 20 million more are at
increased risk. High risk groups include those with diabetes, hypertension and
family history of kidney disease. Early detection can help prevent the
progression of kidney disease to kidney failure.
According to the American Heart Association, “every 37 seconds some
one in the United States dies from cardiovascular disease. And, an estimated
81 million adults in the United States now suffer from the consequences of
these afflictions.”
